Jimbo Fisher will take over for Legendary Coach Bobby Bowden after the Gator Bowl. He is not waiting to take action. Since Bowden announced his retirement Fisher and the assistant coaches who remain have been working their tails off. FSU has gone from the 37th ranked recruiting class to the 9th and with the other prospects expected to sign a top 5 or even the #1 class is in reach.
He has been busy hiring excellent coaches as well. The future coaching staff is shaping up with the hire of Eddie Gran as the new Running Backs and Special Teams Coach. Not only is he an excellent coach but he is considered the top South Florida recruiter that was not already at the Big 3. This hire puts the top 2 South Florida recruiters on Florida State's staff, Coley being the top recruiter. Gran has coached many NFL Running Backs to include Carnell Williams, Ronnie Brown, Rudi Johnson, Deuce McAllister, and Brandon Jacobs. Florida State will transition to powerful and durable work horses to punish ACC defenses.
Jimbo's latest hire is the new Defensive Coordinator Mark Stoops. Fisher took action considering the Alabama Defensive Coaches are busy preparing for the National Championship and other schools are also looking at them. What fell in Jimbo's lap was an excellent candidate in Mark Stoops. First he has Defensive Coordinator experience and took an Arizona Defense ranked 109th to 21st. He knows the state of Florida having coached Defensive backs at USF and Miami. Ed Reed, the late and great Sean Taylor, Phillip Buhcannon, and Antrel Rolle were coached by Mark Stoops. We FSU fans should remember these guys well since they punished FSU while at Miami. This is an excellent hire and with other powerhouse programs like Florida and Notre Dame needing defensive coordinators FSU landed a top candidate to rebuild the defense.
The future Staff is coming together and looks something like this:
Head Coach/Quarterbacks: Jimbo Fisher
Offensive Coordinator/Recruiting Coordinator: James Coley
Defensive Coordinator: Mark Stoops
Linebackers:
Offensive Line: Rick Trickett (Marshall Candidate)
Defensive Line: Odell Haggins
Special Teams: Eddie Gran
Running Backs: Eddie Gran
Wide Receivers: Lawrence Dawsey
Defensive Backs: Mark Stoops
Strength and Conditioning: Unknown but all indications is it is someone he worked with at LSU.
H-Back/Tight Ends: Dameyune Craig (not really sure where he will be officially but it looks like Fisher wants 11 total coaches for Florida State so that is 2 slots left for Linebackers and Strength and Conditioning.)
One thing that Fisher is proving is that his coaches must be able to coach and recruit. Essentially they must work hard and not be resting on there past accomplishments.
GO NOLES!
